Frequently Asked Questions
What time does it start?
9:45am
What time should I arrive?
Plan on being there early enough to leave yourself time to park and pick up your race packets at the Lions Club Hall. There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting for all participants at 9:30am to outline the route, safety issues etc., so you’ll want to arrive early enough to get those things done before 9:30. Leave yourself at least 30-45 minutes to get these things done depending on whether you’ve pre-registered and or picked up your event packet already.
Where shall I park?
A large section of the Lions Club Hall lot will be for handicap
parking and a drop off area. There is a gravel lot east of
the hall designated for event parking and in addition to that,
many will choose to park along Hope River Road. Be aware though
that there will be absolutely no parking along the course
as the bike lanes will need to be free for the participants.
Safety first! (If you live in the area, you may want to consider
riding your bike or carpooling. You may also consider parking
on Quarry Road and taking the footbridge to the hall).
Why do we need “race” packets? Where do I pick them up?
Some of our sponsors have donated items for each
participant. We thought the best way to do this is to hand
them out in a bag with each T-shirt. Your event bib will also be included. Click here to view all the times and locations that pre-registration will be available.
Are there prizes for first, second, third, etc?
No. We’ve adopted a motto, “Where Finishing
Is Winning”. We’re stressing that this is a fun
and non-competitive event, but we’re encouraging everyone
to try their best! Having said that, each registered participant
will have the opportunity to win some pretty amazing prizes.
Am I allowed to rollerblade or use my scooter?
Absolutely! Be aware though that bike helmets are
mandatory for these. (It’s the law!)
What if I can’t complete the route or I happen to injure myself along the way?
There will be support vehicles traveling along throughout
the course for emergencies. There is also assistance for participants
at the water stations and there will be bathrooms along the
way.
I would like to get involved. Are there volunteer positions?
You bet! We could use your help as a parking attendant,
as part of the set-up crew, at the registration table or
a whole host of other things. Take a look at the full list of positions and descriptions, then sign up right now or e-mail us for more info!
Is the Pledge Form a mandatory thing?
No. But there are some fabulous incentive prizes if you do decide
to collect pledges. People who pledge more than $20 will be
issued a tax-receipt from the Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus
Association. It is the responsibility of the HRC participant
to collect funds and ensure that the name and address information
is correct.
What happens after I cross the finish line?
There’s more to the event than the run. Plan on staying
around and taking in some of the children’s entertainment
(face painting, bouncy castle, music) and joining us for lunch.
Although the food is not included in your registration fee,
a BBQ lunch (thanks PriceSmart Foods Staff!) will follow at
the Hope River Park. Also, this is when the prizes will be
awarded.
Sounds like a makings of a great event for charity. Why Spina Bifida?
One half of Team Hagkull is a 9-year old boy, Benjamin who was born with Spina Bifida. The Hagkulls have been on the receiving end with lots of affirmation and support and they felt this would be one way to give back to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of British Columbia.
So the proceeds go to this organization?
Yes. And in fact, tax deductible receipts are available to
any donations over and above a participant’s registration
fee. Contact SBHABC for more details.
Is this going to be an annual event?
August 16, 2008 will be our third annual event and we’re hoping for many more! We’re also very excited that this year the National Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalous Association is running the event in multiple communities in Canada. Check www.hopeclassic.ca for more details.
Can I sponsor others?
You bet! When you sponsor a family you’ll be helping others participate in this great event!
I live too far from Chilliwack to attend the event. Is there something I can do in my own community?
Yes. This year the National Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalous Association is running the event in multiple communities in Canada. Check www.hopeclassic.ca for more details.
I won't be able to attend the event but I'd still like to raise funds for the cause. What can I do?
Grab or print a pledge form (or 3) and raise as much money and awareness as you can for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Then send your pledge forms in by August 1st 2008 by mail or August 8th 2008 on the web. You'll be eligible for all the prizes and feel good that you got involved.
